What We DoCANFit bridges the gap between scientific research and community implementation, offering valuable resources and tools for youth providers and community organizations. Although we do not serve youth directly, we work in partnership with youth providers and community-based organizations.CANFit
Who We ServeCANFit works with organizations serving low income ethnic youth. Statewide research indicates that low income, ethnic adolescents in California have the highest incidences of poor nutrition and physical inactivity. While all racial and ethnic groups in the United States experienced an increase in chronic disease rates in the last three decades, a social inequity exists with communities of color having experienced the highest and most rapid increases. Chronic disease conditions are directly associated with poor nutrition and physical inactivity. Hence, there is an increasing need for health promotion programs which address cultural specificity within the context of California's diverse society. CANFit programming addresses this need.
