Nutrition, Physical Education and Culinary Arts Scholarships

Undergraduate and graduate scholarships are available for California African-American, American Indian, Alaska Native, Asian-American, Pacific Islander or Latino/Hispanic students expressing financial need to study nutrition, physical education or culinary arts in the state of California. Checks will be mailed to the educational institution and are to be used toward tuition and fees.

By providing undergraduate and graduate scholarships, CANFit hopes to encourage more students to consider careers that will improve adolescent nutrition and fitness.

Graduate Applicant Requirements

  • Enrollment in an approved master level or doctoral graduate program in Nutrition, Public Health or Physical Education; or American Dietetic Association Approved Pre-professional Practice Program at an accredited university in California.
  • 12-15 units of graduate course work completed and verified with an official copy of university transcript and a 3.0 or better GPA (cumulative).
  • Ethnic student affiliation of African-American, American Indian, Alaska Native, Asian-American, Pacific Islander or Latino/Hispanic ethnicity.

Undergraduate Applicant Requirements

  • Enrollment in an approved bachelor level program in Nutrition or Physical Education at an accredited (WASC) university in California.
  • 50 semester units (or equivalent) of college credits completed with an official copy of college transcript and a 2.5 or better GPA (cumulative).
  • Ethnic student affiliation of African-American, American Indian, Alaska Native, Asian-American, Pacific Islander or Latino/Hispanic ethnicity.

Culinary Arts Applicant Requirements

  • Enrollment in a culinary arts college in Califonia.
  • Ethnic student affiliation of African-American, American Indian, Alaska Native, Asian-American, Pacific Islander or Latino/Hispanic ethnicity.
  • Prior completed units (or equivalent) of college credits not necessary to apply.

CANFit Student Internships

CANFit has exciting opportunities for students wishing to complete their University internship requirement at a nonprofit, community-based facility. CANFit strives to make the intern experience unique and rewarding and to provide the opportunity to obtain focused experience in the student's chosen career field. An internship with CANFit will provide individuals with exposure and/or experience in most or all of the following areas:
  • Program administration.
  • Health enhancement and promotion programming.
  • Nutrition and physical activity policy awareness.
  • Wellness and fitness motivational programming.
  • Data analysis.
  • Special projects and promotions as assigned by the intern supervisor.

Qualifications:

Junior or Senior level student working towards a Baccalaureate or Master degree in public health, community health, nutrition, recreation, health education, health promotion or related field from an accredited college or university; good oral communication and written skills to instruct and interact effectively with a diverse group of individuals.
