The CANFit Story

California Adolescent Nutrition and Fitness (CANFit) was founded in 1993 and has since become a leader in providing culturally appropriate nutrition and physical activity assistance and resources to organizations across the country. Because of the lack of resources that address cultural issues and the needs of low income ethnic youth, CANFit focuses primarily on programs with low income African-American, American Indian, Latino, Asian-American, and Pacific Islander youth. Many of these populations also have limited access to affordable healthy foods and safe places for physical activity, and suffer disproportionately from health problems such as heart disease and diabetes.

CANFit understands the importance of nutrition and physical activity in these communities and leads efforts to change community environments and policies to support healthy lifestyles.

If you wish to support us and the health of low income youth in communities of color, please make a donation.

The CANFit Program is a statewide, nonprofit organization. CANFit is funded by private tax-deductible donations, programs, materials sales and grant awards from:

  • The California Endowment
  • Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation
  • Kaiser Permanente
  • McKesson Foundation
  • Robert Wood Johnson Community Health Leadership Program
